Iran’s social work challenges

Like other groups, the social workers and psychologists are involved in the increasing socioeconomic problems with complicated consequences, especially with low income.

But other people imagine they are supermen who are able to prevent the harms and solve all of their own and family problems without required facilities for overcoming crises and barriers.

In this condition, they delay taking the right action to meet their needs and hide their situation. Such the ideal situation decreases the influence of sympathy and understanding by social workers and psychologists on clients and there will be no hope to change.

In the face of crises, the pressure of incorrect public expectations leads to a kind of double shame on this group of people، and there is a barrier of expressing mentioned by Brene Brown, a social worker in the field of shame, as a factor of resiliency and social changes. The embarrassment leads to wandering and false judging, and following that powerlessness.

Awareness of the psychotherapy methods and supportive resources as well as gain skills does not help to immunize social workers. The most professional social workers and psychologists do not have any control on all root problems like heredity, macro socioeconomic problems or even family, gender and class privileges.

Imagine a social worker or a psychologist who is divorced or having a mental illness even a worse situation with an addicted brother or a spouse behaves violently and needs to stay in a safe house.

These situations show more complicated conditions of their lives, and their economic-professional aspects of this group are influenced by the problems. It is important to focus on this problem due to high level of stigmatization and the nature of client-centered of this profession.

Making of economic and profession security as well as increasing access to social services and mental health for social workers and psychologists involved in crisis, efforts to change the false social attitudes and promote of teaching the correct methods of sympathy by social work entities are effective actions. It is impossible to solve the problems of this group without the support of related organizations.
