Adolescents, Identity, and the Necessity of Quality Skills Training

Adolescents, Identity, and the Necessity of Quality Skills Training

Adolescence is a period full of physical, psychological, and social changes. During this stage, adolescents grapple with fundamental questions about themselves, their place in society, and their future.

The identity crisis is one of the most prominent features of this period; a process in which the individual tries to construct a coherent and integrated self-image.

Identity is a multifaceted concept encompassing values, beliefs, interests, skills, and a sense of belonging to a group or culture. Adolescents seek patterns, experiences, and interactions to form an identity. Family, friends, school, and the media all play a role in this process.

Unfortunately, in the current situation, Iranian adolescents face numerous challenges. Economic, social, and political instabilities, disappointments, and concerns about the future all impact their mental health and sense of identity. In such an environment, adolescents may feel confused, anxious, and aimless.

One of the most important solutions to help adolescents form a healthy identity is to provide appropriate opportunities for skills training.

Skills training programs can help adolescents:

  • Strengthen their personal skills:  These skills include self-awareness, self-control, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication.
  • Develop their social skills:  These skills include collaboration, empathy, leadership, and conflict management.
  • Acquire professional skills:  These skills help them succeed in their future careers.
  • Increase their self-esteem and self-efficacy:  When an adolescent realizes they are capable of doing things, they feel more valuable.

Skills training programs should be well-designed, engaging, and tailored to the needs and interests of adolescents. Furthermore, these programs should be accessible to all adolescents, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Ultimately, it should be noted that the identity crisis is a natural part of adolescence. However, if this crisis is not managed properly, it can lead to psychological and behavioral problems. Therefore, it is essential to help adolescents form their identity with confidence and hope for the future.

Concluding Remark:  Adolescents who have a good understanding of their cultural identity
